What are Strengthening Exercises?
Strengthening exercises are exercises which are designed to increase the strength of specific or groups of muscles. Strengthening exercises overload the muscle until the point of muscle fatigue. This force and overload of a muscle encourages the growth, increasing the strength. Weak muscles can increase the risk of injury to the surrounding joints and soft tissues.
Strengthening exercises will include a variety of exercises designed to target specific groups or individual muscles. These exercises will begin easier and progress as strength is developed. Some of the exercises may involve the following:

- Exercising against gravity
- Exercising against the resistance of water
- Exercising against a resistance band
- Exercising with weight
- Enhances physical performance
- Exercising using your own body weight as the load

What Our Clients Say
The staff at ProPT were excellent and created an exercise program to alleviate the pain and get me walking again. ProPT got me back on my feet. Peroneal tendonitis made it painful to walk and bear weight on my foot and ankle. The staff at ProPT were excellent and created an exercise program to alleviate the pain and get me walking again. The ladies at the front desk were great. They had to put up with me – no easy task! I would highly recommend ProPT to my friends and family. I’m sure I’ll be back again. I wouldn’t have recovered without it. When I started physical therapy my herniated disc prevented me from walking without a limp. I could not sit down without extreme pain in my lower back and down my left leg. The sciatic pain could be felt all the way down to my toes. The only comfort I found was lying on my stomach. I started seeing progress here after about 4 weeks. I suffered a setback at about 6 weeks and started to lose hope. Shortly after the setback I recovered quickly and made a full recovery. The sciatica is fully gone. I lived with the pain for 3 months before starting PT and now I know I wouldn’t have recovered without it. Thank you to the whole team.
